چکیده

The aims of the CALICE test beam program are presented. The proposed electronics readout system for the CALICE ECAL is described. It is a purposebuilt VME-based, unbuffered system. 1 The CALICE Collaboration The CALICE collaboration [1] is a group of 140 people from 24 institutes in Europe, US and Asia. The collaboration is planning a beam test program starting in 2004 to study both electromagnetic (ECAL) and hadronic (HCAL) calorimeters for a future linear collider (LC). The ECAL will be a silicon-tungsten sandwich sampling calorimeter [2] and there are various options under investigation for the HCAL, namely using tile scintillators with analogue readout [3] or RPCs or GEMs with digital readout [4] as the sensors. The main driver for these choices is the requirement of fine granularity for the “energy flow” algortihms used to obtain the jet resolutions necessary for LC physics [5]. The beam test program will test the ECAL and all versions of the HCAL in an integrated data acquisition system so the data from both calorimeters can be analysed together. It is planned to do a systematic study of the dependence of ∗ e-mail address: [email protected]

Hadronic showers in the CALICE calorimeter prototypes

The CALICE collaboration has constructed highly granular electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeter prototypes to evaluate technologies for the use in detector systems at the future International Linear Collider. These calorimeters have been tested extensively in particle beams at CERN and at Fermilab. We present preliminary results of an analysis of hadronic events in the combined system under t...

Analyses of test beam data using the CALICE calorimeter

We discuss several features of hadronic showers recorded in the high granularity CALICE Si-W ECAL and scintillator-tile HCAL and confront them with several Geant4 physics models. The first measurements of the time-structure of hadronic showers in a tungsten scintillator calorimeter are presented. The high granularity of the CALICE calorimeters allows a software compensation which improves the e...

Calice Electromagnetic Calorimeter Readout Status

The CALICE Electromagnetic CALorimeter (ECAL) will be a silicon-tungsten sampling calorimeter [1] with 30 layers of silicon wafers, each containing an 18×18 array of diode pads, giving 9720 channels to be read out. The signal from each pad is amplified by a Very Front End (VFE) ASIC [2] which multiplexes the signals from 18 pads onto one output line. The silicon wafers and VFE chips are mounted...

CMS Central Hadron Calorimeter

We present a description of the CMS central hadron calorimeter. We describe the production of the 1996 CMS hadron testbeam module. We show the results of the quality control tests of the testbeam module. We present some results of the 1995 CMS hadron testbeam. The design of the CMS detector starts with the 4 T solenoidal magnet of length 13 m and inner diameter 5.9 m. The magnet determines many...

Scintillator Tile Hadron Calorimeter with Novel SiPM Readout

The CALICE collaboration is presently constructing a test hadron calorimeter (HCAL) with 7620 scintillator tiles read out by novel photo-detectors Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs). This prototype is the first device which uses SiPMs on a large scale. We present the design of the HCAL and report on measured properties of more than 10 thousand SiPMs. We discuss the SiPM efficiency, gain, cross-ta...
